About the Journal

Aims and scope

Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (PPCR) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal covering all aspects of clinical research, from design and conduct to analysis, ethics, reporting and education.

The journal publishes original research, systematic and scoping reviews, narrative reviews and perspectives, study protocols for approved and funded studies, methodological articles, short communications and letters to the editor. It particularly welcomes rigorous work from regions and settings with less research tradition or fewer resources, and gives detailed editorial feedback to help authors strengthen their work. Well-conducted studies with negative or inconclusive results are welcome. See the Author Guidelines for article types and requirements.

Publishing model and schedule

PPCR publishes continuously: each article appears online in its final form, with its final citation, as soon as it is accepted and produced. Articles are collected into one volume per year, comprising four issues.

Open access

All articles are free to read immediately on publication and are published under the CC BY 4.0 license. Authors retain copyright and pay no submission, processing or publication charges. See Open Access, Copyright and Data.

Ownership, funding and editorial independence

The non-profit educational institute Scala Institute (https://www.institutoscala.org/) owns and publishes the journal and funds its operation. The journal does not carry advertising. Editorial decisions are made solely by the editors; the publisher takes no part in decisions on individual manuscripts.

Academic affiliation

The journal is academically affiliated with the Center for Clinical Research Learning and Laboratory of Neuromodulation, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital (Boston, MA - https://spauldingrehab.org/research/programs-labs/neuromodulation).

The journal was founded by Professor Felipe Fregni, who serves as Editor-in-Chief.

Our mission is to create a community of international leaders in clinical research with skills to make progress in treatments for human diseases, and this journal is a tool to achieve that.
