Open Access, Copyright and Data
Open access
All articles in Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (PPCR) are freely available online immediately on publication, with no registration or subscription. Authors pay no submission, processing or publication charges; the journal's costs are covered by its publisher, the non-profit Scala Institute.
License
Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). Anyone may share and adapt the work for any purpose, including commercially, provided the original authors and source are credited. The license is stated on each article.
Copyright
Authors retain copyright in their work and grant PPCR the right to publish it as the first publisher. No copyright transfer is required. Where an article includes third-party material, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish it under CC BY.
Self-archiving
Authors may deposit any version of their manuscript, including the published version, in institutional or subject repositories or on personal websites at any time, with a link to the published article.
Data availability
Every research article includes a data availability statement explaining whether and how the data supporting the findings can be accessed. Authors are encouraged to deposit data in a public repository and cite it with a persistent identifier.
Articles reporting clinical trials must include a data sharing statement, as required by the ICMJE, stating:
- whether individual de-identified participant data, including data dictionaries, will be shared;
- which data will be shared;
- whether related documents, such as the protocol and statistical analysis plan, will be available;
- when the data will become available and for how long; and
- by what access criteria and mechanism the data can be requested.
